West Virginians Are Less Likely to Support Candidates Backed by Anti-Trump Club for Growth
Charleston, W.Va. – A new poll by public opinion research firm Mark Blankenship Enterprises, Inc. shows that Governor Jim Justice continues to crush Alex Mooney in the race for the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate in West Virginia.
The independent poll of likely West Virginia Republican and Independent Republican Primary Election voters found that if the election were held today, 61 percent would vote for Governor Jim Justice, 28 percent for Alex Mooney, and 11 percent were undecided.
“West Virginians overwhelmingly support Governor Jim Justice for U.S. Senate. He has a strong record of conservative accomplishments from the largest tax cut in state history, economic development and creating thousands of jobs across the state, record budget surpluses, a pro-life champion, and defender of our Second Amendment,” said Roman Stauffer, Campaign Manager for Jim Justice for U.S. Senate.
The poll showed that Governor Jim Justice’s job approval rating is strong, with a whopping 88 percent of West Virginians saying they either “strongly approve” (42 percent) or “somewhat approve” (46 percent) of his performance leading the state.
Similarly, the poll showed that former President Donald Trump, who has endorsed Governor Jim Justice for the U.S. Senate, remains extremely popular among West Virginia Republicans and Independents, with seventy-nine percent having a “very favorable” opinion of Trump.
Stauffer continued, “The Trump Justice team is a powerful winning force in West Virginia. Governor Justice is proud to have President Trump’s endorsement and looks forward to campaigning with him in West Virginia very soon. West Virginians can have strong confidence in our future leadership with President Trump, Senator Capito, and Governor Justice.”
In addition to strong numbers for Governor Jim Justice, the poll showed that Alex Mooney has a low approval rating. When voters learned Alex Mooney is endorsed and funded by the Club for Growth, one of the country’s most prominent anti-Trump groups, they are much less likely to support him.
“When West Virginians learn that Alex Mooney is endorsed and supported by the Club for Growth, one of the most prominent anti-Trump groups in the country, his support plummets. West Virginians deserve to know the truth about Alex Mooney and his anti-Trump endorsement and support,” concluded Stauffer.
